Luxury Events Management: a consistent career opportunity for Hospitality students
I would describe my internships as a journey: all of them have taught me different things and my responsibilities have changed and grown not only from one year to another but also during the single experiences.
When people talk about hospitality, they often think of hotels and tourism. When did you realize
that the world of events is actually an integral part of the hospitality industry?
If I have to be honest, I started the bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Innovation and E-Tourism thinking
about hotellerie as the unique path I would have been able to follow in my future carrier, but after 2
internships in 5* luxury hotels I understood that “hospitality” is rather bigger and not limited just to one
area. Working with NEBE in the organization of an event like Travelux Club made me understand that
when we talk about hospitality, we are talking about a nexus. The world of events is an important part
of it because it generates a lot of revenue and plays a fundamental role in linking together many
sectors from accommodation, transportation, and F&B to the interest in the destination where the
event is organized and logistic.
Events are not just an integral part of the hospitality industry, but they are assuming a fundamental
role with an exponential grow in these last years. It is a multidimensional sector in which many players
have to collaborate, and this is an optimal way for aggregate operators of different businesses
operating in the same destination. This, as follow, originate a network of experts. Events indeed, are
perfect for networking, creating new relationships and exchanging ideas. This is the key to enhance the
hospitality world where expertise and valuable skills are the major needs. In this way, we are talking
about integration and inclusion which are one of the keys for reaching a more sustainable way of doing
Tourism in the host destination.
Travelux Club and the other tradeshows organized by NEBE are the exemplification of what I said
before. This is because they involve experts of the luxury travel industry fostering them in meeting each
other, with the goal of creating valuable relationships, find new clients for their targets and discover
new trends of the luxury hospitality world.
As a third-year student and a third-year intern, what kind of activities do you do in your role?
During my internship with NEBE Club Events, I had the opportunity to discover and learn how an event
is planned, projected and created but also to participate at Travelux Club 2024. Through these months
I am supporting the Office Director in the pre and post event organizational tasks like the pre-event
assistance to the exhibitors who participate at the events or the feedback tracing after the event. I’m
also taking care of the social medias, supervising and controlling PEDs created by an external agency.
In addition, I am creating graphic design models and doing graphical control of panels and directory.
During the event I assisted the Office Director in the logistic part, setting up the event venue. I also
worked as hostess when the event started having the pleasure to meet and talk to many experts of the
luxury hospitality sector.
How have your internship responsibilities changed from your first year to your third year?
I would describe my internships as a journey: all of them have taught me different things and my
responsibilities have changed and grown not only from one year to another but also during the single
experiences. Working at the Bauer Hotel Il Palazzo and at Rosapetra Spa Resort gave me the
opportunity to learn what professionalism, diligence and customer care means. When we talk about
structures like that, everything has to be tailored on the needs of the guest and done with attention
and precision, skills that are crucial also in organizing events. Comparing my internship at NEBE with
the previous two in terms of responsibilities is difficult giving that they are really different in terms of
tasks. If working in the two 5* hotels I have been able to perform operative tasks, learn how to use PMS
Oracle Systems and work according LHW standards, with NEBE I have been able to learn many back
office and organizational task. Having the honor to participating at Travelux Club 2024 I could meet in
person high professionals of the luxury travel industry, and I learned how to coordinate the good
success of the event. So, I was able to connect operative and back-office tasks while having a complete overview of the organizational path which allowed me to live the experience in with a
different awareness.
Looking to the future, how do you think this internship experience will influence your future
career choices in the hospitality and luxury sector? Are there any specific areas where you would
like to focus further based on your three internship experiences?
My internship experiences made me understand that I would like to develop my future carrier in the
luxury sector, which I have learned to be broader than the boundaries limited at the hospitality. For this
reason, I’m open to work in any field which could be marketing, sales or revenue management related
to luxury activities. I can’t help but say that I would like to continue working in the event world because
of its heterogeneity, dynamism and because its interrelation between different sectors.
